Terrible story... Truly sad. I can't help but wonder if the doctor's responses were really as cold as she describes, or if the baby was really doing as well as she describes - but neither of these things make the ending any less tragic. As a mother, it breaks my heart and I obviously think the guidelines should be amended. BUt i also remember my rotations through the nicu during my RN training when I heard really scary statistics about why babies were there, how much it cost the system, and their very sad prognosis... I also thought then that the system was broken.... I suppose that any time you try and set a hard & fast rule - who to help and who to deny - there's always going to be tragedies... But can the system sustain without regulations? These are tough questions - and much harder to answer when you read personal stories such as these...

Next up, a cheery post with lots of pics of baby S & her big sis (3!) ?!?

Just kidding - thanks for sharing the article - I look forward to hearing what others think...

Wow! This makes me pretty upset b/c I feel a living, breathing baby (or fetus as they say) is worth the risk of saving if possible. You never know what is in the Lord's plan and who will truly survive such a young gestation age. Very sad. I also agree with the above comment but really where can you draw the line when it comes to human life?!

makes ya think about making medicine public. Here she could sue the hospital- maybe she still can-but I'm not sure I want a pro-abortion government dictating things like this-
